Daniel Miller has been given the 2012 Pioneer Award from the fine folks over at AIM - The Association Of Independent Music. Seems their "esteemed judging panel" has bestowed this honor on Mr. Miller for his visionary work with Mute and electronic music. Actually there are some really accomplished judges on there, I just find it funny they refer to them as "esteemed" personally. I get it, trying to hype it up. That aside, kudos to them that they are recognizing him for his amazing work and for the work he continues to do. Should I think it's weird they didn't mention Depeche Mode on their list of bands...

Mute label boss, and legend, Daniel Miller has put together a CD for the September issue of Mojo magazine. DM influence, David Bowie is on the cover and the CD is called ELECTRICITY: A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE FUTURE OF SOUND. Lots of great electronic music featured on the CD with names like Nitzer Ebb, Caberet Voltaire, Can, Throbbing Gristle, Daft Punk, and more. I was trying to get the full track list together and just couldn't get it. I'll post it up when we get our hands on it. No idea if DM are on the CD, but they are for sure featured in the article. We'll have to wait and see if they made the track...

Depeche Mode are featured in the September issue of Q Magazine's "Real Best Of" section. Each month Q asks their experts to choose a band and then they make a Best Of collection of some of their favorite tracks. The cool thing about these lists is that they don't focus on the hits, they are asked to pick ten of the very best tracks from each artist's catalog that includes album tracks, B-sides and rarities alongside some old classics. The DM collection is called "Strange Love : A 30 year Outsiders' Affair" and was put together by Joe Muggs. A very interesting collection of tracks too, songs like...

In a new interview with Clash Music, Dave Gahan hints at the possibility we might see some new Depeche Mode music by the end of the year. Or did he? The interviewer, Mat Smith, says that Dave said to him that the band hope to have something out by the end of a year, a single perhaps, but doesn't quote Dave directly. So, for me, that's just his interpretation of the conversation. With regards to new music, he did quote Dave as saying, "We've recorded probably close to twenty songs so far, and they're all starting to get in pretty good shape. We're now starting to whittle that down what's gonna...

I know, I know... tons of photos are circling the internet of the Soulsavers gig with Dave and why am I even bothering? Well, these are two galleries that were shared through the official Dave Gahan Facbook page and I thought I would share them here as well. So much excitement over the show, it's fun to see Dave doing his thing as we wait patiently for more info on the new DM record and tour. The two galleries are from Under The Radar and Brooklyn Vegan and both have excellent photos documenting the event. Be sure to check both out. To view the Brooklyn Vegan photos that were shot by my friend...
