Discovery Channel’s promo for Ridley Scott-produced “Klondike” mini-series features Depeche Mode soundtrack

Discovery Channel is digging for gold with the premiere of the Ridley Scott-produced mini-series, “Klondike,” premiering on January 20th on Discovery Channel in the US and Canada.

The 3-part mini-series focuses on those who reached out to touch, er, gold in the Yukon Territory wilderness of the 1890s and features Scottish actor Richard Madden (“Game of Thrones”), Abbie Cornish (“RoboCop”), Tim Roth (“Pulp Fiction”), Sam Shepard (“August: Osage County”) and Augustus Prew (“Kick-Ass 2”).

Discovery Channel has gone all out in promoting and marketing  this min-series, with multiple versions of promos over the last several months.  Among the most recent, is this 60-second promo featuring not one, but two versions of Depeche Mode’s “Personal Jesus” – the “Acoustic” and the “Holier Than Thou Approach” remix, with the tempo of each version matching the content of the spots.  The use of the iconic Mode tune was the brainchild of Senior Editor, Discovery Channel Marketing, and DM mega-fan, Steve March.  (Steve was also responsible for the appearance of “Goodbye” in this 2013’s “Amish Mafia” promo on Discovery Channel.)
