Depeche Mode press coverage kicks into gear! *updated*

With the single out, and the album release rapidly approaching, Depeche Mode are in the press a lot at the moment. A whole lotta lot! Instead of posting everything as news, we will instead be sending out interview and review links via Twitter. So if you want everything, go sign up there and follow us… you find us at twitter.com/homemode.

That does not mean the site’s news section will be neglected of course. That will be updated with all the juicy news just as always, plus the occasional recap of the less groundbreaking stuff.

While on the subject of Twitter, we are planning a few other nice things for that, so do sign up now.

*** UPDATE *** :

Also worth noting for those who aren’t already registered to our forum is that we’ve re-opened it for new registrations.

Maybe I'm being an old fogey here but I think the new Home website over reliance on Twitter has taken an excellent website and changed it into a sub-par one. In the past with a release of a single Home would go through the remixes and give his opinion of the tracks. Then I could look forward to reading the comments, even the repeat comments that post the same comments over and over despite the topic. I for one would find my excitement building just by reading some of the comments. Because of the limitations of how many characters you can use with Twitter the postings are dumb down and there's no avenue for others to engage in any kind of meaningful dialog. I could be the one lone crazy voice crying in the wilderness here but I don't like Twitter and I wish the website would go back to the old way of posting information in addition to the Twitter postings for the Twitterheads who can only digest information that only 140 characters long.

dre7861 you're absolutely correct, new home is terrible. In isolation it's fine, but when compared to old home it's totally inferior

Seriously? More reliance on Twitter? It will be a sad day when people get tired of Twitter and site owners say, "Whoops! We better get people back on the web site." If anything, Twitter should be used to get people interested in reading stuff on the site. The next thing isn't necessarily the best thing... it's just the next thing.

I agree on the two posts above. I really enjoyed the website, before the twitter thing. A checked it almost every day, for news and rumors on my favorite band. Im sorry to say that those days are over for me. Too bad - it was my preferred site on DM news.

And all the tracks are cool, but only 6 are remarkable and I want soo much DM release the next singles in this order: #2 Miles Away - The Truth Is #3 Ghost #4 Fragile Tension #5 Peace #6 Corrupt #7 In Sympathy Of course without Wrong becose it's the first single.

I agree. This website has definitely gone downhill. Bring back the old website please.

Mate dre7861, I agree.... HOME was THE great DM Fansite, with news way before official, rumours that usually tend to be true, a RELIABLE site. Now, it seems, too many people are just shouting out cryptic Twitty messages, way too short to understand. Unreadable stuff in a language, faintly reminiscent of some British origin....

So can we start an anti-twitter petition because I only signed up for twitter for this web site and as it turns out I hate twitter so I haven't messed with twitter at all since getting on there and almost never come here ever since everything is..twitterfied

I should point out that Home does not rely on twitter in any capacity. It's just an addition to the site. Twitter will be used for all the things that we'd otherwise not bother with, or that would simply linger in the forum, and just never make it to the main site. Around the time of album release there is so much stuff coming in, that making all of it "news" just wouldn't make sense - not from a content perspective, and certainly not from a personal time perspective. Stuff like new shows being announced; and really interesting news is still news. All the filler stuff goes to Twitter. An anti-Twitter petition won't change anything. And while I am sorry you guys feel the site has gone downhill because of Twitter, it's just one of those things. Quote: "In the past with a release of a single Home would go through the remixes and give his opinion of the tracks" In response to this particular criticism, there were a few factors that played in - not least of which was the fact that no one actually sent us a copy for review. It is incredibly hard to write a review of something we hadn't actually heard. And by the time we got it, the tracks were all over the net, making any review utterly pointless. For the record, I (personally) thought the remix package was awful, with only the Trentemøller mix being worth the time of day. Thanks for the feedback regardless. Constructive criticism is always welcome, but let's keep it constructive. Right, Alex? :) Peter

Peter - Thank you for the thoughtful reply. Forgive me if I have a bit of a quibble with the reply. Perhaps the fault is mine because I had come to rely on Home for all the breaking news about the band. I understand your desire to want to post important news in the news section and filler in a less prominent place but my question is your definition of filler. To give an example one of the recent Twiter posts contained a link to a video of "Peace." I consider that an iten of some significance in that - at least for me in the boondocks of the US which always gets everything after the rest of the world - it was most importantly a new song and a new video. Because it was 'simply filler' on Twitter I happen to accidently run across the video before I ever noticed it in Twitter-ese on Home. But I guess it's just one of those things. Thanks for the brief review of the Wrong remixes. I'm sorry you didn't like them. I also enjoyed the Trentemoller Remix but my favorite was The Thin White Duke, which has to be one of my top five remixes. It's drive and energy reminded me of the Cicada Remix of World In My Eyes. But the Magda remix was just pure tripe. Best Dave

Dave, Our definition of filler, I am perfectly happy to get feedback on. I'd actually really appreciate that. I decided not to post the "Peace" clip for the simple reason that we could not embed on the site, as we try to always do with new videos online. But your point is duly noted. Thanks for the feedback. :) Peter

Alex, We don't delete comments because they offer a differing opinion to "ours" (not sure what that'd be actually - we at Home don't even agree on these things). We remove comments for any number of other reasons however: Maybe the comment is not relevant to the story they are posted on; perhaps they contain info that is blatantly false; perhaps they are inflammatory; perhaps they are not in English; or perhaps they accuse us of things we don't do - like the one I am responding to right now. You really should pay more attention. Keep it constructive and based in reality. People are free to contact us if they want to know why their comment was removed or just not approved. Don't pretend to be able to guess the reasoning. You obviously can't. Peter
