Home. Redesigned and twitterified

So this is our new, updated design, to celebrate the forthcoming Depeche Mode album. It’d be foolish to hope you all like it, so we’ll settle for most of you 😉 . There’s still stuff that’s being tweaked here and there, so there might be some things that aren’t quite working the way they should. If you stumble across any such things, please put it in the comments here, or give us a shout on the forum. We’ve also registered at Twitter, and will be tweeting updates and random thoughts there – you can find our Twitter page at www.twitter.com/homemode.

Awe, but the previous design was so beautifully minimalist.. I loved it! I miss it! (No offense, just not diggin' the new one.)

Overall, I like it. Only two things of feedback: 1) It was nice to know how many comments there were per message in the message summary page, can we get that back? 2) The videos do slow the page loading time down, it'd be nice if we can maybe just have a bunch of links to the videos... or do something different.

Chaotic. Like the new album I guess. It's all good.

It's very chaotic, the videos on the left are confusing with the news on the right, I like the header...but the rest is just confusing, was much neater and easier to read on the last style...must try harder I'm afraid.

What are you guys whining about, huh? It's a new web lay-out and it takes time to get used to, just like it was with the previous one i presume. Childish bastards :-D

I like the new site. Almost a better job than the Official site! Better looking and I can read it better now.

I hardly ever make comments. But I feel compelled to this time. I am really sorry but the new design of HOME is less than... good. I say that in the most loving way b/c I really appreciate all you do and I love HOME. But being a graphic designer myself and seeing the other devotees' comments I agree that the old design was MUCH better. In fact, I think it was better than better.... it was beautiful! And also more user friendly. Well, anyway, that's my two cents. Thanks!

No CSS? I have a widescreen and the site takes half the width of my display, and it's not even centered.

A few quickies: Thanks for all the feedback - good and bad. As long as it's constructive, it's welcome. To answer a few specific questions: The comments counter on the front page will be back. It was left off the new design by mistake, and we've just not had a chance to fix it yet. The videos do load slowly, and will be replaced with preview images instead... we're on it! ;) The left alignment is intentional - we've made the site somewhat wider than it was before, and by aligning it left, rather than centered, we've ensured that people on 1024 pixels wide displays can still view the whole site (only the ads are slightly cropped).

I don't get it. If it's aligned center why can't they see the site fully? And who uses 1024x768 anyway these days?

  • Peter2

@basti: plenty people use 1074x768 these days.
