Something from DM by the end of the year?

In a new interview with Clash Music, Dave Gahan hints at the possibility we might see some new Depeche Mode music by the end of the year. Or did he? The interviewer, Mat Smith, says that Dave said to him that the band hope to have something out by the end of a year, a single perhaps, but doesn't quote Dave directly. So, for me, that's just his interpretation of the conversation.
