Single drops in February says Uncut

In a story about the quick sell out of the London O2 arena show, Uncut magazine brings a quote stating that the first single from the upcoming Mode album will hit radios in February. Make the jump for the full thing!

From UNCUT:

Depeche Mode’s Tour of the Universe European leg announced last week has seen record number of tickets sold since going on sale last Friday (October 10).

A spokesman for the 02 Arena where DM will play their only UK date on May 30, 2009 says that tickets: “Sold out in literally minutes blocking phone lines and crashing websites as fans scrambled for tickets, all European promoters are reporting record sales with early sell outs across mainland Europe.”

Adding: “This is remarkable in light of the fact that tickets went on sale 8 months before the first show and we will not be hearing anything from the new record until the new single hits radio in February and the new album is not out until April next year.”

This is Depeche Mode’s first tour since 2006’s ‘Playing the Angel’ concerts, which broke records with 1.8 million tickets sold.

It was bound to be a quick sell out, with only one gig in the u.k. Managed to get tickets, looking forward to hearing the new album, and seeing once again how they have managed to re-invent themselves without being what you would class as a MAINSTREAM act. Britain SHOULD be proud.

Any chance of there being an extra night put on at the 02?? Suprised only 1 night given that they are so near to home (Basildon). Missed tickets going on sale and trying to get a ticket now is double the face value! Otherwise i'll wait another couple of years rather than spend my hard earned cash. Much cheaper to do the Isle of Wight festival

I am very saddened by the decision to only have 1 UK date. I feel that they could have sold that five times over (and I think they know that too). Maybe its because they are a little older, could be the last tour, more places to debut, who knows. Still, there is the album to await..........

Lets not be mistaken, the 02 sold out to touts & underhanded ticket agencies not to fans. Ticketmaster tickets were unavailable at 9.03am on date of sale. Swindles, swines & probably back handers a go go!

while everyone's talking about "what about coming to ..."- spare a thought for litle old New Zealand! Not a single concert there ever- in 28 years of DM! Sure we're a small country, but no smaller than Ireland...and only a skip from Australia. I waited 17 years to see them before I moved to the UK- and thankfully(!!!) managed to see them twice at Wembley Arena and also at the Wireless Festival in 2006.

Sad as I am to see DM play only one UK date, I'm not surprised at that decision. The music press give very little attention to them (despite being around for a generation and influencing countless artists) and more on worthless acts such as The Arctic Monkeys and any reality TV show winner. Their quality songs are shunted to the sidelines to make way for populist, formulaic, overrated crap. And when they do get mentioned, they're referred to '80s popsters who gave us "Just Can't Get Enough"'. Enough already! Boys, as sad as we are about you playing only one UK date, we are not surprised. But please give us an extra date. Btw, when are you playing in New York?
