It all started with a mix tape.

You know, life is funny.

When I made this mix tape exactly 10 years ago this month I had no idea it was going to be for the woman I would go on to marry. I’m not sure about the rest of the world, but here in The States today is Valentines Day and it’s a day set aside to remember that someone special in your life.

Anyway, 10 years ago I was living in the San Diego area and I was visiting Northern California for the holidays and saw a girl at my friends show and I had to find out who she was! Long story short, through the false confidence given to me by a pathological liar friend we had in common, I called her. She wasn’t home, so I got her address and sent her a mix tape, as that was the only game I had… which isn’t saying much. 😉

This friend, who made me feel like her world was going to end unless she met me, said to have me call her, so what’s the harm? The reality was she had no idea who the hell I was and had to think about it for a while. She vaguely remembered him talking about a friend in San Diego and could only assume that’s who had sent her the tape. Had he never lied, I would have never called or sent the tape, so in some ways I have to thank him for that.

One evening my phone rang and it was her and I have talked to her everyday since. I moved back to Northern California in March of 1998 and we have been together ever since. We married in 2004 and now have a beautiful baby boy together and to think it all started with a simple mix tape. Part of my Valentines Day present to her was to re-make the mix tape on cd as a reminder of how this all started. I know, sappy, but what can you do?
