Depeche Mode Tops Hot Tours With $29.7 Million Gross

Depeche Mode’s international Delta Machine tour is now on the books with the final box office stats reported from the tour’s closing European leg of 40 cities over a four-month span. The legendary electronic music group tops this week’s bevy of Hot Tours with $29.7 million in sales from the closing 25 concerts over the homestretch.

The newly tallied shows started Jan. 15 with a performance at Barcelona’s Palau Sant Jordi, one of the arenas used during the 1992 Summer Olympics. That was the band’s the first performance of the year following a month break from the road. After 23 more concerts during the first quarter of the year, the final performance came March 7 in Moscow. That last show was also staged in a former Olympic venue, Moscow’s Olimpiyskiy, used during the 1980 summer games.

The final European leg was the tour’s second run on the continent. Touring in support of the album, “Delta Machine”, released last April, the veteran English band kicked off its tour in May of 2013 with an initial three-month stand in Europe. Following a jaunt through North America at the end of last summer and into the fall, the tour returned to Europe for its final leg, beginning on Nov. 7 in Northern Ireland. Since launch, the Delta Machine tour played 90 venues of various types: indoor arenas, stadiums, amphitheaters, parks and other outdoor concert sites and casino showrooms. Almost 2 million fans saw the group at 98 performances, generating ticket sales totaling $149 million.

Mexican singer Alejandra Guzmán scores the No. 7 Hot Tours ranking with ticket sales reported from her La Guzmán 1F tour that recently played nine cities in the U.S. and Puerto Rico. Touring behind her live album released last year, “La Guzmán-En Primera Fila”, the Latin rock artist kicked off the tour on January 30 with a sold out club performance at The Fillmore in San Francisco. From three more performances in the western U.S., three shows in Texas, a concert in Miami Beach and a night at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico in San Juan, the tour grossed $1.5 million from 23,964 sold tickets.

Tool lands at No. 8 with $1.5 million in sales from three of the dates on its brief tour through western U.S. markets during March. A total of 13,257 tickets were sold for arena performances at Reno (Nev.) Events Center (March 9) and Selland Arena in Fresno, Calif. (March 14), both with sellout crowds in attendance. The Grammy-winning rock band’s Las Vegas performance was held at The Axis at Planet Hollywood, the recently renovated concert venue that is hosting Britney Spears this year as its first resident act. Tool’s concert drew 6,373 fans, a capacity crowd for the March 15 event that was produced by Caesars Entertainment and Live Nation.
