2013 Stadium Tour Kicks Off In Europe May 7th

Depeche Mode, the band that redefined the sound of music, launch the start of their majestic, groundbreaking live tour across Europe next summer for what will undoubtedly be the musical highlight of 2013.

Dave Gahan, Martin Gore and Andy Fletcher will play 34 must-see shows in 25 European countries to an audience of more than 1.5 million fans, before taking the tour to North America. The tour kicks off with an open-air stadium show in Tel Aviv’s Hayarkon Park on Tuesday May 7th.

Other dates include Berlin’s Olympic Stadium, the Stade De France in Paris, Moscow’s Locomotive Stadium, and Rome’s Olympic Stadium. The European leg finishes July 29th at Minsk Arena.

These will be the band’s first live shows since their highly successful 2009/2010 Tour of the Universe during which they played 142 shows,
smashing sales records with more than 2.5m tickets sold.

Celebrating over three decades at the top of the musical landscape, with over 100 million record sales, Depeche Mode have spent much of this year working on their hotly anticipated 13th studio album due for release next Spring, the follow-up to 2009’s hypnotic ‘Sounds Of The Universe’.

So thats it? Just a new world tour announcement? No album title, first single title, surprise Alan Wilder appearance (ok the last bit was not likely). Seriously though, after all the build up this is a let down. We know they are releasing an album next year so a world tour was a given. Considering how disappointed I was watching them on the last tour I may just wait for the inevitable live DVD/CD combo pack. Oh well...

No... That wasn't "just it". We got most of a new track with some nice candid footage from the studio and they chatted for a bit and reconnected with the fans.

The fact that they are spreading the news around the world after 40 years should be amazing enough on its own. They are taking the time to see all of their soul brothers and sisters come together for the love of their music. As a devotee, that's all I could and would really ask for.

I think they've hit a brick wall somewhere. Listening to Gahan talk about the progress they were making each time they were in the studio this year, they went ahead and booked todays press release. They were probably thinking that by now the album would at least be pre-production, named and ID'd ready for branding of merchandise etc. The uninspiring three triangles above give an indication of the creative artwork block they've got... I can imagine a phone call being made to Mr Corbijn before too long! :o) I feel sorry for the guys in the US who set their alarms to get up and listen to that- what a complete non-event!

I have to admitt, i too was feeling a little underwhelmed by it all. We all knew that the album was coming, we knew it would followed up with a Tour etc....... The Band have teased Alan Wilder's Return this year, with cryptic facebook posts, which if it isn't going to happen, then don't do it! lol. Also, the lack of UK dates is very poor, but to be fair, they did this with the last tour and more were added, so i won't read too much into that just yet..... Good news is that i like the untitled track that was put with the studio montage. has more a "Proper" DM sound, something missed since Suffer Well .

you can find the press conference (36 mn) here : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=09hgbZ8GPoM Yes, it includes about 1mn of a new song !

PK, what do you mean by "hit a brickwall somewhere"? I think this conference was really embarassing, perhaps a consequence of mismanagement. As far as we know from before, the artwork is based on the name of the album and its concept. They must know the album name and songs names for sure. I'd think that they just played dumb under management rules.

I too think it was a bit of a letdown. Even though of course it is great to have them back and going which must not be taken for granted, this kind of announcement was already done for PTA and SOTU. A Wilder reunion would have really been a bomb. As for the artwork, I think it' s the usual Corbijn style, who apparently has long since lost inspiration. Either he comes out with something really new, or at least they could avoid the usual big photo on the back of the LP and have colour pictures instead of B&W. Also the coreographies of the PTA and SOTU tours were similar, could do with a change. Just do not touch that incredible machine gun that is Chris Eigner. Also the schem with a final CD/DVD combo would not be new. Point is, they have done everything what with greatest hits and remixes. In my opinion something new could be an ACOUSTIC album of hits, that would be fantastic. Anyway, I look forward to something new and more towards another PTA rather than a SOTU.

I have no idea why these lack luster fans are whining on here about being disappointed & underwhelmed. I am absolutely thrilled with this new release & stadium tour date list. The current music scene is what is underwelming, and I welcome this breath of fresh air from a band I can always rely on to make me smile. I find the new song intoxicating (can't stop playing it) & a bit reminiscent of their earlier works. When is the cd release? I assume Spring? I have been a true fan since 1981 & I never miss an opportunity to see Depeche Mode live. No one puts on a performance like they do. Hope to see you boys in Dallas, Tx. in Aug 2013.

im confident more uk dates will be added, the same thing happened on the last tour, only london dates at first, and then manchester, birmingham, etc added later on. new song sounds great!
