It's uplifting to see some very enthusiasm comments from fans here. It's not like on some DM videos on youtube with backward-looking dudes saying crap like:"DM is nothing whitout Alan etc...".Depeche Mode CAN do it very well without him!!
Ben is the producer: nothing more, nothing less. We can't judge anything definitive about the sound and style - never mind whether it is any good, which is of course subjective - of the record from these clips, or indeed from the press release or interviews. What we can say, as seasoned Mode watchers, is that there definitely seems to be a good vibe about this one, both within the band and the fan base, and "the signs are good" for an excellent record and tour. If that turns out to be the case, then let's hope Mode get some wider respect and recognition. The less like 'typical' Mode the record turns out to be - and there have been hints of that in terms of the comments from the band about the diversity of the sounds and the more 'outward looking' themes - the more likely it is that non-hardcore fans will dig it, and, paradoxically, that a section of hardcore fans will flame the record...for not being the typical sound they known and love. All we can say with certainlty is that you can't please all of the people, all of the time! Adios.
Yeah BABY!
DM seem to joke a lot in the studio...and that's fun to watch. BUT, hmmmmmm let's hope that the Album will be a bit more -serious- than these 8 clips, ha PEOPLE?
THIS ALBUM WILL BE AWESOME!!!
I've already heard the full version of "Fragile Tension", and it sounds great..awesome guitar part..I felt like I was listening to Personal Jesus..All they need to do is turn up the vocals a bit, but I'm sure that will all be taken care of in the final version...and no, I'm not lying.

And they have been for the past 3 albums.
And Alan has been doing ok without DM, if you like that sort of thing
Fragile Tension isn't outright PTA. For me its more analogue in rhythm and melody (no surprise from what we've read about Martin's new obsession!), with a relatively up-beat chugging drum machine beat and a minor but impacting guitar part for the chorus. Personal Jesus it certainly isn't! Very promising for the rest of SOTU.
Hard to tell given the quality of the file and the fact that things may go up and down in the mix but I kind of like it. Nice melody, good groove and interesting riff to punctuate it. The elongation of the lyrics over the music is I think the hardest thing to get used to, and the lyrics don't blow me away (like Suffer Well in that sense - lyrically quite simplistic but musically strong, one of my favourite tracks from PTA) but it's certainly interesting. You can hear the blood line from PTA: whether you regard that as good or bad is a matter of personal taste but it's hardly surprising as we have the same producer and it's where DM are at now. Anyone who hankers after MTFM, Violator, SOFAD or whatever earlier work should get over it. As great as they were, they were of their time. Let's look forward to the future!
