Just trying to pass the time!

Wow, it’s quiet these days. Which isn’t a bad thing, of course. This is the still before the storm, but it does get a little bit boring. So with that in mind, I scoured the news wires for any mention of Modeness, and here’s the hits and picks!

The San Diego Union Tribune summed up this years Coachella Festival, and outlined their wish list for next year’s installment of the Californian music festival. Not surprisingly, Depeche Mode made the list. (link)

Review site Playback STL don’t seem to think any record is to old to be run through it’s paces, and reviews last years Hourglass. A decent review, scoring a B, and the soundbite of choice would have to be “Hourglass is a more than respectable solo offering from the voice of Depeche Mode”. Just to be a little more up-to-date, they also review the Hourglass Remixes effort, which scrapes in a C+. (link)

His Mode-relatedness, mr. Vince Clarke, have been generating a bit of a buzz (understatement) with his impending Yazoo reformation and tour. Times Online has a nice little piece on this titled “Back with his other Alf”… are they insinuating ms. Moyet looks like a sort, furry Alien or something? (link)

And speking of mr. Clarke, *the* track from his Mode days have made it into a new film, titled “Son Of Rambow”. Granted, the scene could, according to this review on Gather.com, easily have been cut, but I doubt that’s because of the music. Not that “Just Can’t Get Enough” isn’t always a good reason to yell cut… over and over again! (link)

The Star grabbed hold of french singing sensation Yelle, who in turn revealed that she’d link to grab Dave Gahan from Depeche Mode and… well… you know… work with him. (link)

The Guardian asks the age old question, “Ever wondered what fortysomething female electronica fans in the US rate?” The answer…? I could have thought it was was “no”, but apparantly, it’s Depeche Mode’s “Enjoy The Silence”. (link)

And in the mother of all sacrileges, “Personal Jesus” is being used in a show titled… wait for it… “Stars On Ice”. Mode has officially made it the friggin’ icecapades. Where’s Tonya Harding when you need her!? (link)

'Alf' was Alison Moyet's nickname as a youth.
