MSNBC: Depeche Mode don’t need a major label anymore!

In the wake of Radiohead’s recent move away from the mainstream music industry’s major labels, MSNBC is saying the smart money on who’s next to follow suit would be on – amongst others – Depeche Mode. The reasoning goes as follows…

Eleven studio albums in, these synth-pop stalwarts arguably no longer need a major label in their corner. The group, which has recorded for Sire since 1981, can still fill arenas and land new tracks on DJ playlists without the support of radio.

Other names on the list includes the likes of Pearl Jam, Nine Inch Nails, Underworld, Daft Punk and Prince.

Interesting to note that MSNBC – a sister company of NBC Universal, and in turn of Universal Music – failed to list a single artist currently on Universal’s roster. Well, maybe interesting is a stretch… maybe more of a curious fact.
